Turning a Private Event into a Hospitality Partnership Platform

DESIGN TALK

A conversation with Pria Rajput,
Principal Designer & Strategist at Black Label Designs

Let me start with the question more hospitality brands should ask before they host an event:

Are we creating something people attend, or are we creating something that moves the business forward?

It is an important distinction.

A beautiful event can still be passive. People can come, enjoy the evening, take a few photos, have a few conversations, and leave without any clear shift in how they understand the brand.

A strategic activation has to do more than create atmosphere. It has to build perception. It has to create confidence. It has to make the next conversation easier.
“Brand activation is not just about how an event looks. It is about how the experience builds perception, opens relationships, and turns hospitality moments into strategic opportunities.
That was the thinking behind Dream Yacht in Vancouver.

Dream Yacht was not approached as a standard private event. It was created as a high-touch hospitality brand activation designed for a very specific audience: hotel concierge professionals and hospitality decision-makers who influence premium guest recommendations across Vancouver.

For this audience, the event could not feel generic. Concierge professionals understand service. They notice details. They know when an experience feels polished and when it feels unfinished.

THE SHIFT

Dream Yacht shifted from being a private event into a targeted hospitality activation with a clear partnership purpose.

The experience gave BLD and its collaborators a platform to connect with Vancouver’s hotel and concierge community in a way that felt elevated, memorable, and aligned with the standards of premium guest service.

Instead of asking hotel partners to imagine the value of collaboration, the event allowed them to experience it directly.

The brand presence moved beyond visual styling.

It became part of the guest journey, the invitation experience, the printed collateral, the menu presentation, the catering integration, and the overall atmosphere of the evening.

Through this activation, BLD demonstrated how brand strategy, hospitality design, and event experience can work together to create more than a beautiful setting.

They can create a business-facing opportunity for partnership, visibility, and long-term industry relationships.

A strategic hospitality activation that made the partnership feel tangible.

For me, the question every hospitality brand, event partner, or operator should ask is:
Are you creating events that people attend, or experiences that move the business forward?

Because there is a difference.

When the right audience, the right environment, the right details, and the right strategy come together, an event can become much more than a moment.

It can become the beginning of a relationship.
The question we ask every client is this: Does your space work as hard as you do?
Most don't. Most offices are designed to contain work. This project was designed to generate it. That's the shift. And it's available to any business willing to treat design as a strategic decision rather than a facilities one.
About Black Label Designs

Brand Activations That Build Perception, Partnership, and Opportunity

Black Label Designs is a creative studio working across hospitality, retail, wellness, and experience-led commercial environments. We support independent operators, hospitality groups, developers, and growing brands that need their physical spaces, brand moments, and guest experiences to work harder for the business.

For Dream Yacht, the work sat within BLD’s activation layer: using brand direction, hospitality collaboration, printed collateral, digital invitation design, menu presentation, decor touchpoints, and guest experience styling to turn a private event into a strategic relationship-building platform.

For Black Label Designs, brand activation is not just about how an event looks. It is about how the experience builds perception, opens relationships, and turns hospitality moments into strategic business opportunities.
